Community Connections News and Views Stuff A Blue Goose 2018 By Mariah Gorman Posted on 3 weeks ago 3 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr It was a blustery December morning when the Michigan State Police, 103.9 The Fox, NBC25 News, FOX66 News, and The Salvation Army bell ringers gathered at ELGA Credit Union’s Burton and Lapeer branches for the 6th Annual Stuff A Blue Goose toy drive. New toy donations were also accepted at ELGA branches in Clio, Flushing, Flint, Davison, Goodrich, Fenton, and Saginaw to support The Salvation Army Toy Shoppe. In the weeks leading up to the event, hundreds of toys were donated by ELGA Credit Union associates. Bags piled up in the administration building to contribute to the Stuff A Blue Goose drive. The Burton Meijer store on Center Rd also donated a cartful of toys to the cause. A Festive Day Flashing police lights could be seen all the way down Center Rd, which caused quite a stir! The lights were from the “blue goose” police car that was parked in front of ELGA. There was also a firetruck, which was provided by City of Burton Fire Department. A live, warming fire kept bell ringers warm alongside their well-known red kettles. ELGA’s wonderful friends at The Coffee Beanery provided hot coffee with all the fixings in the Burton lobby, which was enjoyed by all as a piano player from The Salvation Army serenaded the lobby with Christmas classics by keyboard. There was even a trumpet playing Santa! Generous Community Members All of the involved organizations were blown away by the generosity of those who donated new toys and cash to the cause. The final count for toy and cash donations were the highest ever! New toys donated: 1,436 Cash donated: $6,747.62 The new toys will be distributed to parents who are in need of Christmas assistance on Wednesday, December 19, and Thursday, December 20 at the Downtown Flint Salvation Army headquarters. Monetary donations are still being accepted by texting ELGA to 41444.
