Not all heroes wear capes. But in this case, our hero DOES! Not only is our very own Money Marvel a superhero to her students and teachers when she’s teaching financial education at local elementary schools, she’s also a real life hero.

In February 2019, Meghann signed up to become a bone marrow donor at the DKMS drive held at ELGA Credit Union. While many people sign up to become donors, it’s difficult to find a perfect match so it could take years before a call is received. Just three months later, Meghann received a call that she was a match! A 58 year old man with MDS needed her bone marrow cells, but he was in poor health and they were wondering if she could be on call to donate when he was well enough to receive them. She said yes! Nearly a year later, she received the call that the man was well enough to undergo treatment and they asked if she was still willing to donate.

This month, Meghann traveled to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor to donate her cells. She just learned that her donation is traveling all the way to Sweden to save a life! Isn’t that amazing?

From Cheek Swab to Lifesaver List

Meghann wanted to share this message:

“My hope is that my experience will encourage others to swab and get on the registry, too. Right now the world may feel like a dark place and you may be wondering how you can help even just a little bit. This is how you can help. Consider swabbing to become a match and save a life!

•Blood cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.
•Blood cancer kills more children in the U.S. than any other disease.
•Every year, nearly 14,000 patients need transplants using cells donated from a perfect stranger. Less than half will get them.

If you are interested in getting on the donor list, please visit!”

We are endlessly proud of our associates and their willingness to give of themselves to improve the lives of others. Thank you Meghann for being a hero both as our Money Marvel and in your everyday life!
