ELGA Credit Union Announces Scholar Athlete of the Month Recipients

ELGA Credit Union has proudly awarded two Lapeer High School Seniors as Scholar Athletes of the Month. The Scholar Athlete award recognizes Lapeer High School senior athletes who have been instrumental in the success of his/her team. These students have taken a leadership role in areas such as athletic competition, academic standards, community service and outstanding character.

A Shining Example

One of the students receiving this award is Eliana O’Donnell.  Eliana has earned this award because she sets a great example, demonstrates good sportsmanship, and is dedicated and very knowledgeable about her sport. She is also kind, compassionate and supportive to all of her teammates.  Her swim coach gives the following examples of these traits: “[She is] the first one in the pool and the last one to leave. Never afraid to take on tough challenges, swimming, anything I ask of her without complaints.”  She also had this to say: “Her positive attitude is very encouraging to her teammates; she never hesitates to help out someone who is struggling.  Eliana is committed to her community by volunteering to be the Team Manager for the boys’ swim team, she participates in the Lighting Ambassadors, class council, and Key Club. She is an active bell ringer for the Salvation Army and she volunteers at Blanche Sims Elementary. She is an honor student who always strives to do her best. It is not an easy task to be in 6 honors classes while being involved in sports and community!”  Great job, Eliana, on being such a shining example for those that you come in contact with every day!

Confidence and Integrity

Also receiving this award is Jay Moore.  Jay was selected for this award due to his leadership on and off the cross country circuit. The ranking as 6th in his class shows his commitment to academics.  His coach expressed his thoughts about Jay as the following: “His leadership on the team has made a world of difference.  Because of his actions, character, and demeanor, we are more structured, motivated, and cohesive than ever before. Jay leads with confidence and integrity.  He is mindful of both the boys’ and girls’ teams, often helping to facilitate the link program.  He represents himself well at all times, but I am especially proud of the representation while he is in a Lapeer jersey. Jay is motivated, curious, driven, and insightful; yet charismatic, reflective and respectful.” Congratulations Jay on paving a path of integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for others to follow!
