The ELGA Running Club was formed at the beginning of 2015 to promote employee wellness and as a fun way to support different events and fundraisers going on in our community. The club ran four races throughout the month of May. We participated in races in both Burton and Flint. We are having a great time encouraging each other, promoting wellness, and supporting the different communities we work and live in! The month started out with the Cinco De Mayo 5K that took place at the Swartz Creek Golf Course on Saturday, May 2nd. Seventeen ELGA runners and walkers participated in the event. On Saturday, May 16th, the ELGA team split up and attended two separate races. Over twenty ELGA associates participated between the two races. The first race was the Healing Hands 5K in Flint at Mott Community College. Funds raised from the Healings Hands 5K benefit the Genesee County Free Medical Clinic. The second race was the Race2Grace 5K. Race2Grace is an annual fundraiser to benefit Faithway Christian Schools in Burton. The last race of May was for the City of Burton Memorial Day 5k on Monday, May 25th. Twelve ELGA associates participated. The goal of the race is to promote running and a healthy lifestyle in the City of Burton and to raise funds for the Pack the Truck program. Pack the Truck is an annual event held at ELGA’s Burton branch each year. Pack the Truck provides school supplies to disadvantaged children in the Burton schools. The Race2Grace and the City of Burton Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk are both part of the Burton Race Series. More information about the Burton Race Series can be found here. We hope to see you as we run around our community!
