Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr This morning, Vibe Ninja Anne and I hopped on a plane (actually it’s more like three planes…but who’s counting?) and we are headed out to the CUNA Community Credit Union Growth Conference in San Francisco, California. It’s actually been a pretty easy journey. We have seen a lot of stuff about Credit Unions, and we haven’t even gotten there yet! We have used our ELGA debit cards and credit cards for our (way over-priced) airport terminal snacks and in flight lunch. Credit unions have been mentioned a few times while I watched some TV during the flight that we are currently on. We even got to show some credit union love when we walked by a booth in the Cleveland airport with associates from a “Bank” (that shall remain unnamed) trying to get us to get one of their high interest credit cards. When they started doing their “schpiel” we just said “No thanks, we work at a credit union!” (Boo-yah Banks!!) We aren’t the only people who love credit unions, either! In times like these, money is tight for just about everyone. That’s why it’s important to let people know about credit unions, what they have to offer their members and most importantly why they are different than banks. That’s part of the reason Anne and I are super excited to be attending this conference. We love getting together with other people who love credit unions as much as we do! We get to hear what other credit unions are doing for their members and we get the scoop on new products and programs for our members! That’s another great thing about credit unions, they are cooperatives! Being a part of a cooperative is great for a credit union because we share ideas and resources. An example of a cooperative is like the “Got Milk?” campaigns. All the dairy farmers pooled resources and ideas to come up with that campaign to encourage people to buy milk. They didn’t specify that you needed to buy it from a particular place; they simply wanted you to buy milk. Credit unions have done cooperative campaigns also. For example, www.lovemycreditunion.org is a great example of a cooperative at work. They just want you to use a credit union as your primary financial institution instead of a bank. They weren’t encouraging a specific credit union and they created a website to find out more about credit unions and how they benefit their members and their communities. Keep visiting the My Vibe website everyday this week! I will be posting a new blog everyday this week to share something beneficial I have learned from the conference and maybe we’ll even post a few videos! Plus, keep your eyes peeled for some other awesome blogs from our super savvy Vibe Ninjas! If you want to learn something particular about credit unions, leave a comment on one of our blogs or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
