Carriage Town Ministries has been serving the hurting and homeless of mid-Michigan since 1950.  ELGA Credit Union had 12 volunteers that served dinner Saturday, May 10th from 5:15-6:30pm.  It felt great to know we each played a part in serving satisfying meals to those in need.  Linda Lokken, one of the volunteers, had the great idea to donate gently used clothing to the ministry as a follow-up event.  I was so happy to see everyone that showed up to volunteer.

Carriage Town May 2014Before dinner was served eight volunteers took a spot on the line to serve while the other four volunteers were there offering support behind the line.  At the start of the line, we had Robert Corba who passed the plates to Kathy Corba serving the rice, then Amanda Johnson added the gravy and meatballs, next David Fejedelem added biscuits, then passed the plate to myself.  I served the salad and my husband Brett offered the salad dressing.  My two children Carson (8) and Alyssa (5) offered dessert, which was a bag (or two) of chocolate teddy grahams.  Each person seemed very grateful and their faces lit up when they got to my children at the end of the line, who were extremely excited to pass out the tasty treats.  There were 55 people who received 110 meals (everyone had seconds).  The majority of those served were men and there were also a few woman and children.

ELGA Credit Union plans to volunteer at this event again in the near future.  A huge thank you to Karen Church, Linda Lokken, Liz Salo, Theresa Mondeau, Sarah Uptegraff, Tyler Bowen, Amanda Johnson, Robert Corba, Kathy Corba, David Fejedelem, Brett, Carson and Alyssa Daniel who all volunteered their time to help others!
