Each number has a purpose all its own. Let’s check them out! Your Account Number can be located on the top right hand side of your statement or eStatement. When your membership is established at ELGA Credit Union, you are given an account number. This number is a base number, usually 5-7 digits in length, with which ELGA associates can locate your information and find your account. This number is also used to enroll for ELGA Online and Mobile Banking and to reset your passwords. You would also need this account number if you were to use any of the many Service Centers* available to you as an ELGA Credit Union member. The account number can be located on the top right of your monthly account statement. If you are expecting a deposit or making a payment using your routing number and account number, you will need to use your MICR or transaction account number. (Pronounced MICKER) What is a MICR? Originally the term MICR was used to describe the numbers printed at the bottom of your personal checks. It stands for “magnetic character ink recognition.” With the introduction of automatic payments, the account number used mirrored that number located on your checks, continuing the use of the number’s nickname. MICR account numbers can be anywhere from 5-13 digits in length. Using your MICR ensures that the payments or deposits processing through your account are posting to the share you desire. Where Can I Find My MICR? Example of MICR number in ELGA Online Banking. MICR account numbers can be found within ELGA’s Online or Mobile Banking for each of your shares. You can locate them in online banking after you have logged in by first clicking on the account share. Then on the bottom right you will see an “about this account” option. You can locate them in mobile banking by clicking on the account share, then clicking on details. Once you click this option you will be given information such as the account type, interest rate, and the MICR you would need to use for any electronic payments. ELGA Credit Union’s routing number is 272479935. It can always be found on the bottom of WWW.ELGACU.com, or in ELGA Online and Mobile Banking. It is in the lower right corner of each page on online banking, and can be found in the “About” section in mobile banking. Any time this member would like a deposit to come into the account or a payment to come from the account, the MICR needs to be used. Failure to use the MICR could result in the deposit or payment being returned as “no account.” Please remember that the proper use of your MICR is the only way to ensure your money is doing exactly what you want it do. *Service Centers are non-ELGA Credit Union financial institutions at which you can perform basic transactions. They are available to serve you when you are not near an ELGA Credit Union location. For a list of Service Center locations, please visit https://www.elgacu.com/bank/atm-locations/.
