ELGA Credit Union had the honor of participating in the second annual Good Times in Goodrich Festival on Saturday, August 4th. It was amazing to watch the town of Goodrich really come alive. We had incredible weather and an amazing community spirit that traveled throughout the daily events.

We started our day out bright and early at Goodrich High School for the 13th Annual Kayla O’Mara Memorial Race. This race is held each year in the village of Goodrich. All of the participants travel the same streets that Kayla trained many miles on during her short life as a student-athlete at Goodrich High School. The race raises funds for an annual scholarship in Kayla’s memory. This was a 5k run or walk and was an invigorating course with a variety of terrain from beautiful rolling hills to dirt and paved roads. There were over 400 participants. One of the most unique aspects of the race was the finish line.  As participants entered back through the High School parking lot we ended the race doing a lap around the track at Goodrich High School to honor Kayla.

Once our ELGA racers completed the Kayla O’Mara Race we headed down to participate in the Good Times in Goodrich Kick off Parade. This year the purple ELGA pace car assisted in kicking off this fun event. The Grand Marshall was Lt. Jeff Neville and he kicked off the parade. As we headed towards downtown you could hear the sounds of the Goodrich Martian Marching Band getting the crowd excited. As we traveled down Hegel road it was an amazing feeling to be greeted by the Goodrich Community.  We ended the parade at the Good Times Festival where there were over 250 classic cars on display for the car show.

In the vendor area they had booths set up by several local businesses, such as cinnamon donuts made by Porters Orchard or the fresh corn on the cob from Weil’s Farm. Of course, ELGA associates were on hand as well.

The Good Times event draws in quite a crowd from all across Michigan.  Not only do they have a vendor area, but they truly had something for the entire family. These activities include the parade, classic car show, pie eating contest, and live music all day by local artists. They also had a Kid Zone put on by Valley Tent Rental in Goodrich.  The Kid Zone contained several inflatable jump houses and slides, face painting, and a putt-putt course.  Good Times also included the Good Times Beer Garden where they had local artists playing music and a corn hole tournament this year.

Good Times in Goodrich Festival is a community-based, non-profit organization working to give back to the Goodrich community. They provide funds for local families in need, scholarships for deserving students, support for school booster groups, and help for Goodrich beautification. They raise this money through their fundraisers throughout the year. The main event is the Good Times in Goodrich Festival. It is held annually on the first weekend in August.

The true nucleus of Goodrich is family and community and you could feel it in each event we participated in on Saturday.  The Goodrich community and ELGA are a perfect match with our similar values and love of local communities.  We are excited to be celebrating the one year anniversary of our Goodrich location on August 14th.  We look forward to participating in this festival, and other events, in the future.
