On Saturday, February 17th, ELGA’s Wellness Team attended the 6th Annual Burton Kiwanis Hot Fudge 5K Run & Walk.  This event was hosted at Bentley High School in Burton.  This race was presented by the Burton Kiwanis Club who kindly offered yummy hot fudge, a slew of fresh fruit, and other goodies for dipping upon completion of the race.  The Burton Kiwanis Hot Fudge 5K Run & Walk is the first of four race events in the Burton Race Series.  By participating in any three of the four race events, you will earn an awesome participant medal at the end of the series.

This race was my first 5K experience ever, and I have to say, I was taken aback by how many people were involved in this community event.  The camaraderie that took place was so amazing to see.  There were hundreds of people ready to participate.  Participant ages included all ages, from toddlers in their snow pants, to the elderly in their spandex professional running gear.   It was such a beautiful sight to see so many different people coming together for such an amazing cause.  I am already looking forward to the next event on our calendar, The Flint Pot O’ Gold Run.

I am proud to say that proceeds from the race will be used locally for scholarships and grants to help children here in our community through the Burton Kiwanis Club.  ELGA places such a strong emphasis on serving our community and through our ELGA Wellness team we are able to find races that give back.  This core ELGA value is a main reason why I am so proud to be an ELGA associate.  Overall, all of the race attendees seemed to be having a great time, despite the cold temperatures.  There were smiling faces everywhere you looked, and I was so happy to be a part of this wonderful event for my very first time.
