On May 18th and 19th I had the pleasure of performing with some of my teammates at the 11th annual Mott Motown and More celebrity lip sync show. This year’s ELGA team consisted of Kitya Shepard, Lanesha Contreras, Ashley Petitti, Jay McDaniel, Candice Shipley, Tyler Caryl and myself. We preformed our rendition of “No Scrubs” by 90’s iconic girl group TLC.

The event helps raise money to lower tuition at Mott Community College for its students. Many local businesses, dance studios, Mott faculty, and students participate in this wonderful event. The show is a mix of old Motown and new hits from today. This year’s line up included acts like Sheila E, Bruno Mars, the Temptations, Teena Marie, Salt-N-Pepa, and Beyoncé. We had many months to prepare a full dance routine and costume look. We were ready to go when the lights hit the stage on Thursday evening.

The feeling of having your peers watch you preform is beyond exhilarating. We rocked that stage and crowd like we were actual performers. The applause from the crowd roared. Needless to say, we had huge smiles on our faces when our performance was over. During intermission we were able to mingle and network with all of the event sponsors, VIP guests, and even the Mayor of Flint herself. This was a great opportunity for ELGA to help raise money for a local college and to promote our name in the community that we serve in as the best place to bank, borrow, and invest.

I was very proud and honored to be a part of this event for the second year in a row. It allows me to connect with other associates that I might not be able to see or know on a personal level. We have all bonded and created new friendships out of this experience. Knowing that we are raising money to lower the cost of college for our community members is also heartwarming and proactive.  We are already talking about how to make things bigger and better for next year. I am excited to see what new associates would be interested in this event that is so dear to me. I love how ELGA is always in the community and how we incorporate a fun atmosphere in our professional environment.
