On Saturday, August 19th, the community of Montrose held their annual Montrose Blueberry Festival Parade.  ELGA Credit Union was excited and honored to be their main sponsor for this event that marked its 46th year as a community tradition.  The Montrose Blueberry Festival Parade draws a crowd of approximately 15,000 viewers and has over 100 group participants entered into the parade itself from all over Genesee County. The parade route goes through downtown Montrose and is just over a mile long. All of our associates from the Clio/Montrose ELGA CU branch, and several other associates from other branch locations, participated in the building of our float and walking in the parade.

I chose to start championing this event about ten years ago after I had moved to the Montrose area from the west side of the state.  I thought it would be fun to get involved in an event in the town in which I was now living in.  In doing so, I feel that over the years I have met a lot of new members of the community and it has afforded ELGA CU the opportunity to build some lifelong relationships.

Montrose is a small town where it seems you are only a person away from knowing everyone.  It is such an amazing feeling to be walking down the parade route and hear the crowd yelling your name and, “We love ELGA!”  It is such a feeling of pride to be so warmly received by the community that you serve in.

Each year we work really hard to create what we feel is an award winning float based on the annual theme.  We spend a lot of hours coming up with an idea, design concepts, and then actually building the float.  We have won awards for our floats four out of ten years, and every time we receive an award we could not be more excited to see our hard work pay off.

ELGA CU and our associates are already looking forward to sponsoring and participating in the parade again next year.  Mark your calendars now to join us on the third weekend of August in 2018!
