ELGA Credit Union recently recognized two Goodrich High School seniors as December’s Scholar Athletes of the Month.

Receiving this award is Ben Locey.  His coach had the following to say, “Ben was very instrumental in getting us to the District Finals in 2017.  His play versus Flint Southwestern kept us in the hunt for a championship.  We had Ben play the 4 spot most of the night, where he was not as big as the player he was guarding and attacking.  However, his intelligence, heart, desire, and discipline got us the win.  Ben carries himself as a true gentleman would, and he both gives and gets respect.”  Congratulations Ben on paving a path of integrity, sportsmanship and respect for others to follow!

Also receiving this award is Ryan Darby.  Ryan was nominated for this award because of her dedication to her academics, athletics, and her community.  Her coach had this to say, “Ryan is one of the hardest working student-athletes I know.  Her effort in practice as well as games is a great example for others to follow.  She is always encouraging her teammates during practice and games, which has made her a great mentor for a young team.” Ryan earned honorable mention all-conference as a junior, and is on track to be named to the all-conference team again.  Ryan has given back to her community through volunteering at basketball camps, as well as her time to the program whenever needed.  Great job Ryan on being such a shining example for those that you come in contact with every day!

The Scholar Athlete award recognizes Goodrich High School senior athletes who have been instrumental in the success of his/her team and who have taken a leadership role in areas such as: athletic competition, academic standards, community service and outstanding character.

After graduating from Western Michigan University with a BA in Communications, and spending nearly 10 years on the frontlines of the Flint & Genesee community as an Events & Social Media Manager, I was excited to join the ELGA team as their eMarketing Specialist. I look forward to continuing to build lifelong relationships throughout our community, and showcasing the ELGA way to the world.
