2017 Shiawassee River Clean Up

We had another very successful Friends of the Shiawassee’s Annual¬†River Cleanup on¬†Saturday, June 24, 2017.¬†Ten brave souls participated in the cleanup this year, and oh what a time we had!

The weather was perfect and the water was warm. We picked up numerous bags of trash. We retrieved a full size picnic table and full size garbage can out of the river bed. We also picked up a¬†new friend¬†along the way that joined our merry group of garbage pickers! He was young man named Steve, and he was very helpful! I personally found a bottle with a message in it! This is the second time I have found a message in a bottle! The note inside had one word on the paper. It said ‚ÄúLOVE.” It seemed fitting because¬†the day’s activities were all about showing love to our community!

An ELGA Associate, Amanda E. and her boyfriend Zach, also did a great job! Erica M. came out for the first time and said she will be back next year!! Thank you to my husband Tim, for helping with the refreshment’s at the half way point! A great big thank you to Cat and Don, who are great friends and ELGA supporters, who cleared a nasty log jam that I so wanted gone!

Lastly, I want to give a shout out to our friends Mary and Brad who are always involved in the various river cleanups! We were joined by several other gentleman and friends, and everyone had a great time for a very worthy cause of making the eco system happy! We hope you will join us next year to for the Annual Friends of the Shiawassee River Cleanup!
