Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr We are just two weeks away from the 2017 ELGA Scholarship Program deadline. Four Carmen Lee Wilber Memorial Scholarships are available to high school seniors attending college in the fall. ELGA will also award a Giving Back Community Scholarship of $1000 to a member currently attending college. Scholarship applications are available at: www.ELGACU.com/scholarship. Applications are due Friday, March 31st. Helpful Hints: 1. Pay special attention to the due date! To be eligible for consideration, we must receive your scholarship application by 6pm on Friday, March, 31st. You can turn in your application to your local ELGA branch, drop them off to us at the Burton Admin Building or mail them to us. 2. Submit a fully completed scholarship application. Read the scholarship application and make sure you answer all questions. Read the essay guidelines and follow them! There is a checklist on the last page of the application. Use it! 3. Make it personal and passionate. Be factual, but don’t be afraid to, “toot your own horn!” Tell us about your achievements, impacts, and goals. We want to hear about all the wonderful things you are doing, and why doing those things are so important to you. 4. Find an editor. Even the best planned and most passionately written essay can be derailed by spelling mistakes or awkward sentences, and if you’ve spent a lot of time looking at your words, it can be very easy to overlook basic mistakes. A few minutes of proofreading by a trusted editor can make a huge difference. 5. Take the time to create the bonus video. Set yourself apart from the other applicants and take the time to create the bonus video! Creativity is encouraged. Just be sure to check and double check the YouTube link you submit for accuracy, or better yet, create a bitly.com link that has your name in it to easily reference. 6. Know your audience. Applicants are encouraged to investigate ELGA Credit Union and the community and to interview staff, volunteers and members. The important information you learn could help you write a great essay! The selection committees can’t wait to read all of the scholarship submissions and look forward to making the ELGA scholarship winner announcements in early May 2017.
