When we first heard about the Burton Memorial Day parade the entire ELGA Burton teller line was excited. With two veterans on staff in the Burton branch, and several family members having previously served, we knew this event would be something special for our team. We jumped in with enthusiasm and excitement before we realized a flaw in our plan- none of us had ever built a float for a parade before!

We vigorously scoured the internet for days looking for ideas and designs. We agreed on a plan of attack and at that point it was all hands on deck! We spent many nights after our branch closed at our Branch Manager’s house building, creating, cutting, and wrapping. Our float building experience was largely trial and error, but it ended up coming together beautifully. Not only did we have a float that we were proud to display in the Memorial Day Parade, we had grown closer as a team through all of the late nights and time spent together. We were excited for Memorial Day, and were ready to show off all of our hard work.

When Memorial Day rolled around the excitement was at an all-time high. It was inspiring and moving to see the crowds forming along the road as we put the finishing touches on the float and passed out flags of the military branches. My team and I are were truly honored that we were given the opportunity to acknowledge and pay our respects to our nation’s fallen heroes. Freedom is not free, and for that reason we take time to specially acknowledge those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to our veterans for making America strong, and thank you to our members for making ELGA Credit Union the absolute best place to work, bank, borrow, and invest! We loved seeing the Burton community come together and we look forward to continuing to be involved in the Burton Memorial Day Parade for years to come.
